Dance Clinic
The FDC-Dubai,
in association with the Philippine Consulate Generale, Office of the Labor
Attache, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration-Filipino Workers’
Resource Center, runs the Dance Clinic thrice every year.
Beginners
classes are being conducted for swing, cha-cha, boogie and tango
for a period of three months. Volunteer dance instructors and
instructresses are all alumni and bonafide members of the FDC-D.
At the end
of each clinic, students are required to pass an examination which
will lead to a graduation ceremony. Among the graduates, the five
best female and five best male dancers will be selected and paired
to compete during the graduation ceremony.
Since its
inception in 1996, the Dance Clinic program have become one of
the most popular socio-cultural activities among the Filipino
community in the UAE. From its humble beginnings with only 11
students during its inaugural batch, it now boasts of producing
more than 2,000 graduates (as of October 2004).
